Blue Mountains Experience
Travel just 1.5 hours to the west of Sydney to experience nature on a grand scale in the UNESCO World Heritage listed Blue Mountains. Characterised by towering sandstone cliffs, waterfalls and lush valleys, this stunning area has long been a favourite destination for Sydneysiders and overseas visitors alike. The Blue Mountains are called the 'Blue' Mountains because of the blue haze or mist created by fine particles of eucalytus oil that are emitted by the thousands and thousands of eucalyst trees that combines with sunlight to create a magical blue haze over the mountains.
Our first stop is Sydney Zoo for a friendly encounter with Australia’s unique native fauna. There are over 4000 animals at Sydney zoo. Your first encounter is usually with the eastern grey kangaroos which hail from the appropiately named Kangaroo Island in South Australia. You are able to hand feed the kangaroos under the supervision of our zoo keepers . Next on our tour of Sydney Zoo is one of the all time favorites for overseas visitors, Australia's most loved marsupial, the Koala Bear. There is also an opportunity to get a free digital photo standing next to the Koala Bear also under the supervision of the zoo keepers. We spent approximately 1.5 hours at Sydney Zoo.
After Sydney Zoo we head to the world renowned Blue Mountains. When in the mountains breathe, breathe in the air. People literally visit the mountains to cleanse their lungs and soul. It is a magical place with pure rich clean air, rainforest walks, stunning vistas and the innocense of village livestyle. Our first stop in the mountains is at the beautiful village of Leura. This village is home to hip cafes, artisans, bookstores and great places to enjoy your lunch. We spent approximately 1.5 hours in Leura.
Next, we travel along scenic Cliff Drive to reach Echo Point and the mythical Three Sisters rock formation. The Three Sisters are Hawkesbury Sandstone formations dating back 250 million years. The whole Blue Mountains was once under a shallow sea hence the formation of the rocky sandstone outcrops like the Three Sisters. We spent approximately 20 minutes at the Three Sisters.
The afternoon is spent at Scenic World where exciting experiences await you. Journey to the floor of the Jamison Valley onboard the world’s steepest railway, travel back up through the canopy on the cableway, with views of Orphan Rock and the Three Sisters, then glide over the Katoomba Falls on the Scenic Skyway. After a short walk along the sub-tropical rainforest boardwalk it is time to hop on board your coach again. Now that you have breathed in the mountain air and cleansed your mind, body and soul, its now time to head back down the mountain to the City of Sydney. Hopefully see you next time on our Coastal wanderland tour of Port Stephens home to dozens of bottlenose dolphins.
